Sketching the Blueprint | Chongqing Energy Storage Technology and Industry Development Summit ended on a high note
In order to further align with the trend of green and low-carbon development, implement the national energy transition and transformation, and accelerate the promotion of energy storage innovation and development, Chongqing Energy Storage and Smart Energy Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and Qingan Energy Storage Technology (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. (referred to as the ‘QAES’) jointly organized the Chongqing Energy Storage Technology and Industrial Development Summit ---“Focus on Chongqing Energy Storage Development and Building an Innovative Ecological Pattern Together”. The summit was held on August 12, 2023, in the Western (Chongqing) Science City, under the guidance of the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, Chongqing Economic and Information Technology Commission, Chongqing Energy Bureau, and the Administrative Committee of the Western Science City (Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone).
Opening remarks: Policy support in drawing up the industrial blueprint
Mr. Zhang Anjiang, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Secretary of the Party Committee of Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone in the Western Science City, Prof. Ouyang Minggao, Chinese Academy of Sciences academician, professor at Tsinghua University, expert in new energy power systems and electric transportation, Mr. Zhou Shiwu, Director of Ganzi Prefecture Development and Reform Commission, and relevant departments of Chongqing Municipal Government, scholars from Tsinghua University, Chongqing University, and other universities, entrepreneurs and technical experts in the industrial chain, energy storage power station operators such as China Power Construction, Three-Gorges Water Conservancy, State Power Investment Corporation, as well as experts from multiple banks and investment institutions have participated in this forum together.
Mr. Peng Shiquan, member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone in the Western Science City, stated in his speech that new energy storage is an important carrier for national energy transition and the implementation of the dual carbon strategy. It is also a trillion-level new industry for the next few decades. Chongqing attaches great importance to the development of energy storage industry and has identified new energy and new energy storage industry as one of the six characteristic advantage industry clusters with an output value of hundreds of billions in the city’s innovation plan. With strong support from the Development and Reform Commission, the Economic and Information Commission, the Energy Bureau, and other departments, Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone in the Western Science City is closely following the overall plan for the “33618” modern manufacturing industry cluster in Chongqing and actively building a “3238” modern manufacturing industry cluster system. Efforts are being made to foster and expand future industries represented by new energy and new energy storage, creating a “showcase” of the highest level of manufacturing industry development in the city and a “cradle” leading the future industrial development.
Mr. Zhou Jianchi, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Chongqing Municipality, also stated in his speech that the energy storage industry is a comprehensive project that requires active participation and collaboration from the government, enterprises, research institutes, and all sectors of society. It is essential to establish a close and integrated innovation chain between academia, industry, research, and application. He hopes that experts, scholars, leading companies, operators, and financial institutions in the field of energy storage can come to Chongqing for in-depth exchanges, sharing of wisdom, and jointly create a bright blueprint for the development of the energy storage industry.
Academic and Technological Empowerment for Future Outlook
The strong support from the government will serve as a massive engine for the development of the energy storage industry, while the theoretical support from academic research will be the core driving force behind the rapid growth of the entire sector. At the forum, Academician Ouyang Minggao, an esteemed expert the field of new energy power systems and electrification of transportation, Chinese Academy of Sciences academician and professor from Tsinghua University, delivered keynote speeches on the topic of “Energy Storage-Centered New Energy Revolution: Battery Storage + Green Hydrogen Storage + Intelligent Storage”. The presentations revolved around three main aspects: “Bottleneck Technologies in China’s New Energy Revolution”, “Research and Development of Energy Storage and Hydrogen Energy Technologies at Tsinghua University”, and “Technological Prospects of the New Energy Revolution”. Academician Ouyang Minggao pointed out the comprehensive connotation of the new energy revolution, which includes five pillars and four segments. He emphasized that the broad pathways for energy storage in the new energy system lie in hydrogen energy and green hydrogen storage, storage and battery energy storage, as well as intelligence and smart storage systems, such as intelligent energy systems based on vehicle-grid interaction. “In the field of batteries, the focus has shifted from power-oriented and safety-centric approaches to digitization, intelligence, and now the transformation of new material systems. Solid-state transformation has become the focal point and challenge in battery technology, with a strong research emphasis on solid-state lithium power/storage batteries,” said Ouyang Minggao.
Collaboration between Industry and Research Institutes: Landmark Release of Energy Storage Industry White Paper
The rise of new energy storage will lead the innovation of energy storage technology, which will undoubtedly bring many new opportunities. At the same time, due to the long energy storage industry chain and its involvement in various specialties, it requires collaboration along the upstream and downstream of the industry chain. To address this, the Chongqing Energy Storage Technology and Industrial Development Innovation Alliance took the lead in compiling the “Chongqing Energy Storage Technology and Industrial Development White Paper”
(referred to as the “White Paper”). Vice Mayor Zhang Anjiang, Academician Ouyang Ming, and several other leading experts witnessed the release of the “White Paper.”
